Home from Australia: Gemma & David’s Wedding by Darek Novak

We’ve got a gorgeously sweet real wedding to kick off the new year. Teenage sweethearts Gemma and David first met when they were both 16 and worked together in a local department store. Living far away in Australia they planned most of their wedding online, choosing Darek Novac Wedding Photography to capture their special occasion.

David proposed to me at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne, Australia. At the time we lived locally in an apartment so we considered this our garden to visit when possible. After a period of work keeping us busy David casually made the suggestion we have a relaxed afternoon in the gardens, it was there that he took me to a quiet spot and got down on one knee.

When it came to planing their wedding both Gemma and David wanted their location to be convenient for their extended families, who live throughout Ireland and England. After viewing Lough Rynn Castle online and falling in love with it, the location was chosen, as well as their ceremony venue, which was St Jospeh’s Church in Clonturk, Dromod.

The small, simply decorated church has lots of natural light and was where David’s parents were married 30 years before. The parish priest was happy for us to let our decor company and florist in to decorate. Conveniently, Lough Rynn Castle is only ten minutes away.

Planning their Irish wedding from the other side of the world didn’t hinder this couple and with the help of the Internet, friend recommendations and by sticking to their guns.

If we didn’t hear back from companies that we contacted, we moved on and found people that welcomed our business!

The wedding was a regal affair with plenty of local charm and fun thrown in, including an Irish dance troupe who were a surprise from a relative.

Each dress for the bridesmaids and myself were custom made. Given that is was a church wedding and a castle venue for the reception I knew I wanted something grand yet I didn’t want anything too big and princess like.

She chose a regal blue and yellow colour scheme, with blue bridesmaids and yellow flowers, which worked perfectly with the colour scheme in Lough Rynn.

Our Photographer

We came across Darek Novak online also. As we are based in Australia – the photographs offered on the website were all we could go from and we were impressed with what we saw. We met Darek only one week before the wedding! Darek is easy natured and witty which made us feel relaxed and at ease. He made everyone feel at ease, even the very young guests and captured beautiful shots of the toddlers. We definitely recommend him. He’s reasonably priced for photos which really shadow a lot of the high priced photographers out there.
