Today’s chic real wedding story of an Irish couple comes from Canadian photographer Justin Morrison and what a treat it is! The Castlemartyr Resort was the perfect location for this elegant couple Catherine and Peter.
Catherine and Peter always knew each other to see, but it wasn’t until they were officially introduced by a mutual friend at a five a side soccer tournament that the pair became friends and started dating.
Peter proposed the night before my birthday. We were at my brother’s house for dinner and Peter proposed after dinner and a few classes of wine for a bit of courage!
After much deliberation about where to hold their wedding (they toyed with the idea of Italy) Ca and Peter decided to stay close to home in Cork. Initial enquiries brought them to Castlemartyr Resort and right from the outset they were very impressed with their exceptional service, its location- a short drive from the city, it’s setting, and the capacity for dining guests as they did not want the guest list to get out of hand. They then booked the church, priest and band, relaxed and didn’t book anything further for six months.
As I have no sisters and am not too much of a girly girl – I didn’t know where to start when it came to my dress! I chose it by process of elimination! I tried some dresses in New York earlier in the year to get some ideas and also if I didn’t see anything in Ireland I could order one and know what to expect. I started looking in Ireland about six months before the wedding. I ruled out various styles due to practicality, material etc and made a few appointments with bridal shops. One was with Amore Bridal in Youghal that was highly recommended by friends – that’s where I found my dress. It was a new arrival that week also which was very exciting!
The day was incredible. We were both extremely relaxed during the planning and the immediate build-up, which definitely set the tone for the day – that it was gonna be one big celebration. The rain dissipated before lunch which gave an added bonus of some sunshine! I personally thought I would be an emotional wreck as my mum died several years ago and missed her dearly, but the day itself was one laugh after another.
Advice for other couples
From the start be sure to take the planning in your stride and do not let it consume you – this worked for us as there was no stress at any stage. Give yourself plenty of options if your 1st choice is not available – shop around and get quotes. Do things bit by bit as there are aspects of a wedding that can be sorted in advance and those that will need to be done at the last minute. Delegate jobs, especially in the final weeks before the big day. Most importantly embrace and enjoy the day! On the actual day – let people come to you and spend as much of your day together as you can – after all it’s your wedding!
