Orla and Ryan met as children in a mobile home park in Ballymoney, Co. Wexford, over 17 years ago! Today we share their beautiful wedding in St Patrick’s Church, Glencullen, and then on to the fabulous Barberstown Castle for their reception.

The proposal happened during Easter last year in the same mobile home park where we met. What happened is a bit of a blur, but it involved a fake ring, a rocking horse and my brother calling to say he had just got engaged too!

Thinking she had a hard task ahead of her, Orla and her bridesmaids’ first stop was to Mullingar to The White Room on a Saturday morning for the start of her wedding dress search.
We arrived there at 9am and by 11.30am I had found and bought my wedding dress! It was actually the first dress I tried on and after trying on practically every other dress in the shop I knew that was the dress for me. I’m sure some people thought I was mad to have bought my wedding dress in the first wedding dress shop I visited but I had no regrets as I absolutely loved my dress!

Reflecting on her dream day Orla has many highlights.
I love horse riding and the girls from the stables brought down my horse and another for a surprise ‘guard of honour’! Both horses were beautifully turned out. It was an amazing surprise.

Little did Orla know the minor panic before the ceremony…
The biggest near disaster was the priest not arriving until about two minutes before me! Nobody from the groom’s party could get him on the phone and the best man had to call the bridesmaids to tell them to stall and not arrive as planned. Turns out there was a burial in the grounds behind the church, and the priest was stuck behind the hearse on the way up. All worked out in the end though and I was blissfully unaware of all the drama!

Considering they were only a stone’s throw away, a trip to Johnny Fox’s Pub for a pint, and a great photo opportunity was inevitable.

With lots of friends getting married in 2012 including Orla’s older brother, the couple tried hard to find a date that suited everyone. With a rough idea of the date they then began looking at potential ceremony and reception venues inside County Dublin and found St Patricks Church, Glencullen, which was the perfect spot. On their search to find the dream reception venue, Orla and Ryan went on a whim to see Barberstown Castle, whilst already having another venue held. On visiting the stunning castle they knew it was the place for them! With these two big decisions made, everything else began to fall into place for the couple.

Other highlights included the church service, the speeches, which were all lovely and moving (and very funny!), the inflatable instruments which came out towards the end of the night for some air guitar and mostly just having all our family and friends in one place having a great time.

Advice for other couples
Don’t listen to our advice, and try not to listen to too many other people’s either! It’s very easy to get torn between all the well-meaning friends and family suggestions, but remember what you want and try and get as close to that as you can. Make sure to RELAX and enjoy the day and not to get too caught up in the minor details. The day goes by quickly so you want to be able to enjoy every second of it!
